The Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) test is primarily used to diagnose tuberculosis, especially in pleural fluid. Elevated ADA levels in pleural fluid are highly suggestive of tuberculous pleurisy. It can also be used to detect tuberculosis in other body fluids like cerebrospinal fluid and peritoneal fluid.
