You must have heard a popular saying, Mard ko dard nahi hota or men don’t feel the pain,’ but is it? Do men really feel nothing? Do men not suffer from emotional struggles and health issues?

Society has created a stigma that showing emotions is a sign of weakness, which can be seen in regular checkups as well.

A study by the National Health Institute found that 24% of men are less likely to visit a doctor for a checkup than women because they stress about negative outcomes. This reluctance isn’t just about health—it’s tied to deep-rooted expectations for men to appear strong, stoic, and self-reliant.

You have often seen male figures in your family being concerned about everybody and everything except them, which brings on health issues like diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. These issues impact them mentally as well as physically.

International Men’s Day is a reminder to celebrate the invaluable contributions of men to our society and reflect our support for their breaking free from societal norms that hinder their well-being.

Redcliffe Labs runs an awareness campaign #MendYourHealth to emphasize the importance of men’s mental and emotional well-being. Furthermore, encourages men that vulnerability doesn’t diminish a man’s strength; rather, it grows to seek care and prioritize health.

We are a purpose-driven PAN India diagnostic network that believes in making a healthier Bharat and providing quality diagnostics to everyone. Our awareness campaign #MendYourHealth encourages men to take care of their health, seek medical help, and create a safe space where men can look after their health.

The Bigger Picture of Men's Health

Studies reveal alarming statistics about men's health:

  • 46% of men in India are unhealthy, facing an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, prostate cancer, and other lifestyle-related diseases because of genetic vulnerabilities and environmental hazards.

  • A study found men have a lifespan three to five years shorter than women, attributed to smoking, poor dietary habits, higher alcohol consumption, and higher injury rates.

  • Sexual dysfunction affects 31% of men.

Despite these figures, you can significantly improve these outcomes by adopting healthy lifestyle practices and undergoing regular health checkups.

A study found that men have a lifespan of three to five years less than women because of smoking practices, unhealthy dietary patterns, higher alcohol consumption, and higher rates of injuries, whereby following healthy lifestyle practices and regular testing can help improve the condition.

The need for the hour is for men to take care of their holistic wellness.

Importance of Our Campaign #MendYourHealth

Our campaign #MendYourHealth focuses on men's health and inspires them to prioritize their mind, soul, and body every day as cultural stigmas and stereotypes in India make it difficult for men to address their emotional struggles.

We conducted a live session to break stereotypes and encourage men to talk openly about their holistic health. In the session, we provided insightful information about mental health and physical well-being and helped people gain valuable information about men’s health like never before. We also encouraged men to acknowledge their health issues and lead an ‘emotionally happy life’, not just from the outside, but from the inside too.

Health issues like cardiovascular diseases are increasing among men, and because of societal pressure, men find it difficult to communicate. A study in 2021 shows that 46% of Indian Men suffer from one or other kind of disease.

Studies found a sharp increase in mental health issues like depression, individualism, stress, and societal pressure between the years 2014 and 2021. Regular screening tests can resolve these issues, and also talking to your loved ones can help you stay updated about your health.

4 Common Health Issues Among Men

Reports show that while 72.5% of suicide victims are men, this highlights an urgent situation to create better healthcare systems and initiate open conversations about health issues. By raising awareness and encouraging men to seek help, we can work toward a healthy and empowered future. Men face several health challenges throughout their lives. Let us look at them.

  • Cardiovascular Disease- According to the Indian Heart Health Association, 50% of heart attacks in India occur in men under 50 and 25% in men under 40. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that CVD is a major cause of mortality and disability among Indian men, with a summing death rate of 349 per 100,000 people, which is actually higher than the global average.

  • Prostate Cancer- The prostate cancer problem is growing in India, making it one of the top ten cancers in the country. Studies project that over 47,000 cases of prostate cancer will occur by 2025. Men with obesity, improper diet, and genetic alterations are at risk of catching prostate cancer.

  • Anemia- Anemia is a major health issue, especially among Indian men. The National Health Institute reported that 25% of men had anemia between the ages of 15 to 49 years. Conditions like smoking, living in rural areas, being underweight, consuming tobacco, and having lower household wealth contribute to anemia. Deficiency of vitamin B12 can also lead to anemia. Better keep a regular check by monitoring your iron levels through regular testing.

  • Sexual Health Issues- Sexual health issues among men are growing at a rapid rate in India. A study found that 7% of men face infertility, however, the reason is unknown. Other sexual health issues involve erectile dysfunction, low libido, premature ejaculation, and alcohol use disorder. Studies found that 48 out of 100 men with alcohol dependence syndrome have sexual dysfunction. We offer a Fertility Panel for males, that screens male reproductive health and confirms infertility.

To fight off these health issues, here are the top preventive tests that you must take to lead a healthy life.

Why Are We Doing This?

The National Center for Disease Informatics and Research (NCDIR) reported that men face several health issues, mainly non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Genetic, physiological, environmental, and behavioral factors contribute to NCDs, which are nearly responsible for 70% of casualties in India and 20% of premature deaths.

Through our campaign #MendYourHealth, we want men to make their health a priority, which can improve their holistic health. We provide full body check-ups for men, inclusive of important parameters at INR 2999, which provides detailed health information about men’s holistic well-being.

The Final Thought

Men’s health is a pressuring issue that deserves equal attention and care. We at Redcliffe Labs, with our #MendYourHealth initiative, aim to break societal stereotypes and empower men to prioritize their well-being. The campaign addresses the holistic well-being of men in India and further promotes them to open conversations about mental and physical health. We aspire to create a healthier and happier future for men by breaking stigmas and nurturing their emotional and physical health.
