Glucose tolerance test (GTT) Complete Instructions -
This test is recommended for pregnant women in order to screen for gestational diabetes. This test may be usually recommended between the 24 and 28th week of pregnancy.
GTT-2 (2 vials)
- Two specimens will be taken
- First specimen in fasting
- Second specimen at 2 hours post consumption of glucose solution
- 250 - 300 ml of normal water is required to make a glucose solution
GTT-3 (3 vials)
- Three specimens will be taken
- First specimen in fasting
- Second specimen at 1 hour of post-glucose consumption
- Third specimen 2 hours of post-glucose consumption
- 250 - 300 ml of normal water is required to make a glucose solution
Points to remember
- Overnight fasting is required.
- Do not eat or drink anything before or after the glucose is taken.
- Only a sip of normal water can be taken if required.
- No glucose is provided by the lab.
