Relish the smoky flavor of roasted or grilled corn sprinkled with a pinch of salt, lime juice, and chilly powder, making it a lip-smacking and nutritious delight.
- Moong Dal Chilla
Also known as lentil pancakes, moong dal chillas are savory pancakes. They are rich in protein, fiber, and other nutrients.
Combine ground moong dal with chopped veggies, flour, and spices to prepare a nutritious and filling moong dal chilla. You can enjoy it with yogurt or mint chutney.
- Roasted almonds
They are a versatile and delicious snack option for the rainy season. Almonds are rich in vitamin E, magnesium, and other essential nutrients that you can enjoy straight from the container as a crunchy and satisfying snack.
Toss one cup of raw almonds with olive oil and spices like chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, pepper, and a teaspoon of salt. Further, spread almonds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Then, roast the almonds in a preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Let them cool completely before storing them.
- Vegetable Cutlets
Vegetable or veg cutlets are a powerhouse of vitamins, minerals, and nutrition. They are easy to make and healthy to eat with a hot cup of tea during the monsoon season.
Add vegetables like spinach, beetroot, or cauliflower to the cutlet mixture. Then, a crumb coats them with gram flour (besan) or maize flour (cornmeal or makki ka atta) so they become crispy. Add green chilies and a certain amount of red chili powder, according to your preference. Instead of deep-frying, you should shallow fry the vegetable cutlets for a healthier eating experience.
- Gram
Boiled or roasted gram or chickpeas can be a great addition to your list of healthy snacks during monsoons. Chickpeas (gram) contain a good amount of fiber, which is beneficial for digestion and helps control blood sugar levels. Besides, they are also an excellent source of protein, which helps strengthen your muscles.
Method 1: Preheat the pan using olive oil. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Then, add the chopped onions and green chilis and sauté them well until they become translucent. Add the boiled chickpeas to the pan and mix the ingredients well. Add salt and chaat masala according to your taste. Sprinkle coriander leaves and squeeze a lemon to make it a healthy, delicious monsoon snack.
Method 2: Preheat your oven. If using canned chickpeas, rinse them well and pat them dry with a towel. Now, toss the chickpeas with olive oil. Add paprika, cumin powder, and salt and black pepper. Mix all the spices and grams properly.
Further, spread almonds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Roast them in an oven for about 20-30 minutes until the chickpeas are golden brown and crispy. Let them cool completely before serving.
- Fruits
It is vital to take good care of your immunity. However, you need a strong immune system to protect the body from monsoon illnesses and infections. Hence, the need to consume fruits as snacks arises as they are rich in vitamins and minerals. Besides, the antioxidants in fruits will protect the body from damage caused by free radicals.
A colorful fruit salad containing berries, grapes, melon, apples, bananas, etc., can be a refreshing and hydrating snack. You can dress a plate of colorful fruits with lime, salt, and pepper to make it more delicious. Besides, they are beneficial for supporting health and overall weight management.
