Important Insights:
The researches and studies reveal that 1 in 10 men and 1 in 8 women above 35 years have some type of cancer. Out of all the different types of chronic cancers, Prostate Cancer is the sixth most common type of cancer, affecting the Indian population.
With the rapid rate at which prostate cancer is increasing and affecting people, the number of deaths is expected to double by 2040 compared to 2018.
Also, the statistics reveal that prostate cancer affects men more profoundly than women.
To control the existing state & to save men from suffering due to prostate cancer, the Urological Society of India has formulated several guidelines for its on-time diagnosis and precise management.
Guidelines For Management of Prostate Cancer:
The guidelines of the research and framework are due to the increasing trend of prostate cancer globally. Moreover, the rise in prostate cancer has been observed at approximately 100.9% in Asian countries, including India.
- Professor Anup Kumar- A leading Author from the department of Renal & Urology Transplant at Safdarjung Hospital, says, 'Early Detection & Screening are the essential factors for managing prostate cancer.
- For practicing urologists, the guidelines state that they should offer an individualized treatment plan based on tests and clinical judgment instead of following a regular treatment plan.
- The guidelines further state that there are two most important tests for the person with symptoms of prostate cancer. It includes Prostate Specific Antigens ( PSA) test and DRE ( Digital Rectal Examination)
Know-Why:
The reason for emphasizing early detection, individualized treatment, and proper clinical examinations is because that is only the key to beating cancer. Cancer becomes fatal when there is no detection at the right time & it reaches the extreme stage.
With timely detection and proper treatment, cancer can be controlled, increasing a person's life expectancy by 10 to 15 years, even if prostate cancer is diagnosed at the age of 50.
Treatment Guidelines for the Low- Risk Prostate Cancer Management:
- The first step to starting the treatment is to guide & counsel the patient about the long-term complications of the disorder and all the possible side effects of the treatment.
- Also, the guidelines state that after the proper counseling, the treatment should be initiated with radiotherapy.
- If required, nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy should begin only after the patient's consent.
Treatment Guidelines for the High-Risk Prostate Cancer Management:
- After the comprehensive diagnosis, if the high-risk localized prostate cancer is marked, radical prostatectomy is a must.
- It can be imposed alone or with a multimodality approach based on the patient's condition.
- Based on the severity, the patients might require androgen-depriving therapy and radiotherapy along with radical prostatectomy. It is primarily a first-line treatment to be followed in the case of metastatic prostate cancer.
The primary reason for formulating the guidelines is to save the countrymen from chronic health disorders and to control the death rate. However, clinicians can accomplish the guidelines for treatment only when citizens do not ignore any unusual signs & symptoms of poor health.
Diagnosis is The Key to Deal With All Health Disorders:
Diagnostic services are offered with ease across India. Now, it is possible to get a doorstep sample collection not only for cancer but any other health disorder. The only key to staying safe, healthy & identifying the health disorder on time is timely diagnosis.
One must keep booking preventive health checkups after 25 years of age. With the current lifestyle and adaptation to undesired habits, diseases are common. If we avoid preventive health checkups, there is a high-possibility that life & health starts avoiding you.
So, stop taking any risk, and say yes to health tests.
