Blood tests are one of the most common diagnostic tools for various physical ailments. Different types of blood tests can diagnose underlying chronic conditions or infections in individuals, not just the general health.
Most doctors use blood tests as a primary step towards ascertaining a definitive diagnosis for the patient. Blood glucose test
Commonly known as blood sugar tests or Fasting and Postprandial sugar tests, this helps evaluate the blood glucose levels on an empty stomach and in the postprandial phase after a meal. It is a key marker for the diagnosis of diabetes in individuals.
Besides fasting plasma glucose test (FPG) or Random plasma glucose test (RPG), other blood glucose tests include Hemoglobin A1c test, Urine sugar fasting, etc.

Calcium blood test
The calcium blood test is conducted to assess the calcium levels in the bloodstream. Since calcium is a key mineral needed for healthy bones and functioning of the nerves, muscles, and heart, inadequate or excess calcium can often be fatal. It is medically known as the Ionized Calcium Blood test. The test measures the amount of “free calcium” available in the bloodstream.

Cardiac enzymes test
A doctor prescribes a cardiac enzymes test to check if the patient is having a heart attack or has already had one. The test analyzes the levels of specific cardiac enzymes in the bloodstream that are often high after a patient has sustained a heart attack or if their heart muscles are injured. The test checks myoglobin, troponin, and creatine kinase levels in the bloodstream.

Cholesterol and Lipid profile test
The lipid profile is a type of blood test that measures the levels and presence of each type of cholesterol in the bloodstream. This includes high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, cholesterol, and triglycerides. Doing this test can determine the risks of cardiovascular diseases in certain patients with a genetic predisposition. Irregular reports can also have significant risks of pancreatitis or poor overall health.

C-reactive protein (CRP) test
The CRP test analyzes the level of C-reactive protein in the bloodstream. The specific protein is made by the liver only. Any heightened levels of the same in the bloodstream indicate signs of inflammation and an underlying disorder. It could be due to an undiagnosed infection or liver dysfunction.

Complete Blood count (CBC) test
This is a very common blood test done to ascertain the overall health of the blood cells in the body, including the red, white blood cells, platelets, etc. It can indicate signs of infection, genetic disorders, bleeding disorders, anemia, leukemia, etc. Any abnormalities in the levels can indicate an underlying disorder.

Cancer Blood tests

Coagulation tests
Coagulation tests are often a staple before every surgical procedure. It is also done to check for underlying bleeding disorders in the patients. The test checks if the blood clots in the normal time and way in a patient. The bleeding/clotting time test is the most common type of coagulation test done.

D-Dimer test
The D-Dimer blood test is done to check for any type of blood clotting disorder in the patients. It is a key test for diagnosing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in patients. Any abnormal levels of this test signify that the patient has a blood clotting disorder.

Electrolyte test
A very common blood test, the electrolyte test, checks sodium, potassium, and chloride levels in the bloodstream. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)
This blood test determines how long it takes the red blood cells to precipitate to the bottom of the test tube. Faster falling of the RBCs to the bottom signifies signs of inflammation in the body. Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) test
