How Much Water Should You Drink in a Day in Relation to Body Weight?

According to a study, your body weight is one of the key factors that determine how much water you must consume daily for a healthy life. You can calculate your daily water requirement by a simple calculation

  • Multiply your weight by ⅔. 
  • Add 0.35 litres of water for every 30 minutes of your workout. This refers to the amount of water that you should drink per day.

The water intake is also dependent on your age. Different organisations have recommended different optimum daily intake of water. The daily intake of fluids according to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the U.S.
Institute of Medicine (IOM) as per your age and gender are tabulated below:

The required daily intake of water also depends upon your stage of life. The requirement of water is different in pregnant and lactating women as compared to the non-pregnant women of the same age. According to ESFA, the daily water requirement in pregnant women is 2.30 L/day and in lactating women is 2.60 L/day. According to IOM, the daily water requirement in pregnant women is 2.60 L/day and in lactating women it is 3.40 L/day.

    A good one. Also, if you can add the maximum qty that can be taken at a time. Besides, I do take around 1.5 ltrs in the morning before going for a brisk walk/jog to compensate for the loss. I live in Chennai which is hot and humid.

      Drinking 1.5 liters before a walk in Chennai's heat is good. Max safe amount at once is 500-750ml. Sip water during exercise and stay hydrated all day.
