Pain & Common Symptoms
Published on 14 September 2026
Mouth ulcers may occur as a result of stress, not getting enough sleep, or due to eating a lot of spicy food. Deficiencies in vitamins, particularly in vitamin B12, iron, and folic acid, can also cause them. Ulcers can be caused by accidentally biting the inside of your cheek or by using a hard toothbrush. Changes in hormones and a weak immune system also contribute to their development. In some cases people get them as a result of food allergies. They generally heal within a week, but if they keep coming back then it is necessary to see a doctor.
