An RFT stands for Renal Function Test, which is also known as a kidney function panel. Simply put, it is a routine blood test that checks exactly how well your kidneys are doing their job. Your kidneys act as your body’s built-in filters, responsible for clearing out waste and extra fluid from your blood. This test measures the levels of specific waste products in your bloodstream, mostly focusing on things called creatinine and urea. If those numbers come back higher than normal, it generally means your kidneys are struggling to filter things properly. Doctors typically order an RFT if you are showing signs of kidney issues, if you manage conditions like diabetes, or simply as part of your regular annual health checkup.
