Lipoprotein profile (FLP) is a blood test that measures the amount of fats and cholesterol in your blood. Triglycerides, LDL (often called “bad” cholesterol), HDL (often called “good” cholesterol), and total cholesterol are tested. Checking your cholesterol levels and figuring out your risk of heart and blood vessel problems are the main reasons your doctor may have asked you to get an FLP test. People may not always need to fast for the “fasting lipid profile,” despite its name. The test and your doctor’s instructions will tell you. Follow your doctor’s or lab’s preparation instructions instead of thinking you need to fast.
