Pain in the right testicle can have several causes, including an injury, groin strain, epididymitis (infection or inflammation), a varicocele (swollen veins), a cyst, or a hernia. One important emergency is testicular torsion, which happens when the testicle twists and its blood supply is reduced or cut off. Sudden or severe testicle pain needs urgent medical attention because torsion can permanently damage the testicle if treatment is delayed. If the pain starts suddenly, is severe, lasts more than an hour, or happens with swelling, nausea, vomiting, or lower abdominal pain, you should visit your doctor. Do not try to guess the cause yourself or wait for the pain to go away.
