Infections & Fever
Published on 5 October 2026
A normal temperature of a human body is often around 98.6°F (37°C), but it does not have to be exactly 98.6°F. For many healthy adults, temperature can normally be somewhat higher or lower, depending on the person, time of day, activity, and how it is measured. It is usually lower in the early morning and may rise slightly later in the day. Your temperature can also change with factors such as exercise, illness, and, in some people, the menstrual cycle. So, a reading that is slightly above or below 98.6°F does not necessarily mean something is wrong. If you have a persistent fever or symptoms such as chills, weakness, or body aches, it is a good idea to speak with a doctor.
