Newborns do not sleep like adults. Their sleep includes a lot of active sleep, during which they may twitch, move their arms or legs, make small noises, or wake easily. Newborn sleep is naturally divided between active and quiet sleep, so a baby may appear restless even while sleeping normally. What matters most is that your baby is feeding well, waking normally, and breathing comfortably. For safe sleep, always place your baby on their back on a firm, flat sleep surface with no pillows, loose blankets, or soft toys around them. Seek medical advice if your baby has trouble breathing, changes colour, is unusually difficult to wake, or is feeding poorly.
