Fever: Which Tests Can Help Find the Cause?
Complete Blood Count (CBC)
A CBC measures white blood cells, hemoglobin and platelets. Changes in these values may suggest infection or inflammation.
Blood Culture
A blood culture checks for bacteria or fungi growing in the blood. A positive result may confirm a serious bloodstream infection.
Urine Routine & Culture
A urine test checks for pus cells, bacteria and other markers in urine. Abnormal findings may point to a urinary tract infection.
Malaria Test (Rapid/PCR)
A malaria test checks blood for the malaria parasite. A positive result supports a diagnosis of malaria.
Widal Test
The Widal test detects antibodies associated with typhoid infection. Because it can produce false-positive results, doctors interpret it alongside symptoms and other findings.
CRP (C-Reactive Protein)
A CRP test checks for a protein the liver releases during inflammation. High levels may occur with infections or other inflammatory conditions.
ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)
An ESR test checks how quickly red blood cells settle in a tube. A faster rate may suggest inflammation somewhere in the body.
