Due to the way it causes the spine to bend when performed, this pose is also known as Vakrasana, or Twisted Pose. Sanskrit for “twisted” is “Vakra. The upper body is totally turned and twisted in the Vakrasana. The muscles in the hands, knees, and back are all stretched.
