Thyroid disorders are often caused when there is improper thyroid hormone production. Typically, it can be due to iodine deficiency or as a side effect of an overactive immune system.
Conditions like Grave’s disease, nodules on the thyroid gland, thyroiditis, etc. are also some conditions that trigger thyroid disorders in a patient.
Some of the common risk factors associated with thyroid disorders include:
- Family history of thyroid disorders
- Side effects of a chronic medical condition, especially autoimmune disorders
- Medications that have high iodine levels
- Age (over 60 in women)
- Past history related to thyroid complications
If you experience any potential symptoms, ensure that you get the required testing you need for a timely diagnosis and treatment.
