There are three ways to diagnose thyroid disease, depending on the symptoms one is experiencing. It could be via:
- Blood tests like thyroid function tests
- Imaging tests like X-ray, CT-scan, or MRI
- A physical examination is done by the doctor
Besides thyroid function tests, some of the other important blood test types include testing for thyroid antibodies, calcitonin, thyroglobulin, free T3, free T4, etc.
If there are nodules or tumors in or around the thyroid gland, the doctor can perform a physical test to analyze the complication.
