Type-1 diabetes is a chronic and incurable disease that occurs when the pancreas produces little to no insulin. The lack of insulin leads to elevated blood glucose levels at all times.
Patients diagnosed with type-1 diabetes are put on insulin therapy for life. The treatment often kickstarts with short-acting insulin, in which the effect of the insulin starts 30 minutes after the injection.
Depending on the glucose levels and the diabetes management trait one is following, the doctor will adjust the dosage of the insulin. Some of the other types of insulin administered include rapid-acting insulin, intermediate-acting insulin, and long and ultra-acting insulin.
Also, regular monitoring of the blood glucose levels is crucial for type-1 diabetes patients as part of their treatment.
