Diabetes isn’t just about the elevated blood glucose levels in the body. It is also not just an impairment of your pancreas or the cell’s inability to utilize the released insulin.
Uncontrolled diabetes imposes a lot of complications on the body, including:
- Heart disease
- Stroke
- Blindness and vision-related problems
- Kidney disease
- Nerve damage
- Gum disease
- Depression
- Gestational diabetes
- Amputations (in severe cases)
The complications develop over the years and not right after diagnosis. The good news is that these complications can be averted with proper treatment and diabetes management.
