Type-1 diabetes, or insulin-dependent diabetes, is an autoimmune disorder and a chronic disease, wherein the pancreas releases little to no insulin in the blood.
Type-2 diabetes, or insulin-independent diabetes, is often considered a lifestyle disorder, wherein the cells in the body fail to utilize the insulin that’s released in the blood.
In either case, the end result is hyperglycemia, or an elevated blood glucose level.
Patients with type-1 diabetes have to get insulin shots or be on an insulin pump for managing their symptoms. On the other hand, type-2 diabetes patients might be on oral medications, insulin injections, etc.
