To this day, the “exact” cause of diabetes is not known. Also, the cause of your diabetes diagnosis will depend on the type of diabetes you have.
For example, if you have type-1 diabetes, it is an autoimmune disorder, which results in the inhibited release of insulin from the pancreas.
On the flip side, if you have type-2 diabetes, even though your pancreas is producing the needed insulin, the cells in your body aren’t taking it to break down the glucose molecules into energy, leading to excess levels of blood glucose.
Either way, factors like genetic predisposition, lifestyle choices, poor diet, stress, etc. are some of the risk factors for diabetes.
